🔗 Share this article The Battle Royale's Specialized Movement Mechanics Are Going Mainstream During This Update The game developers have an exciting surprise prepared for the popular battle royale gamers, perfectly timed for festive season. Enthusiasts of this game's super-slick traversal can rejoice to discover that a new movement mechanic is being implemented when Season 27: Amped launches on November 4th. Introducing The Mantle Boost Named "Momentum Boosting" by the developers, this ability provides gamers a burst of propulsion when climbing over ledges and walls. As explained key developer Eric Canavese, Mantle Boosting has unofficially existed of the game for some time, often called as "ledge boosting." However it's challenging for casual gamers, and is mainly used by competitive players in Ranked Mode or tournaments. In this update, the team is making it easier for players of all skill levels to successfully perform these advanced movement boosts. "Mantle Boosts have been in Apex for a while, but executing it requires skill to perform and a player would never know it's possible without outside knowledge," Canavese states. "Now including a Mantle Boost indicator so players can clearly identify the timing to activate the high-octane traversal skill, opening up the mechanic and adding fresh strategies to compete for more players." Why Opening Up Advanced Mechanics Why make a previously obscure movement quirk accessible to everyone? Principal designer Josh Mohan explains the team wants gamers to feel powerful — even those who are inexperienced. "[The playerbase] performs advanced techniques like super-gliding and tap-strafing, and we examined at other games, observed what the community execute, and we said, 'How can we provide some of this power to a broader audience?'" Mohan explains. "Because right now, certain advanced [movement] mechanics are somewhat awkward to access — it requires to remap your keybinds and execute within one-frame windows. So we said, 'What if we make a polished version?'" The Amped Update Emphasis on Mobility Movement is largely the central theme in Season 27, with Legends Horizon, Rampart, and the aerial combatant all getting buffs to help keep them in motion. Recovery time on her tactical ability has been decreased, and this skill will boost players upward faster than it used to. Rampart's Amped Cover feature a roof and capability to grant movement bonuses to allies in range. But the spotlight is on aerial Valkyrie receiving the most attention now, with various adjustments applied to enhance her as more potent, faster, and deadlier. "I think there's quite a consensus that Valkyrie's time is here," states Legend designer the designer. "There's no doubt she was dominant in the past, but due to the addition of new Legends, mobility perks, and Evac Towers, it felt like she's not very relevant in today's the game. It was an ideal chance for the team to reexamine a bunch of aspects [of her kit] and sort of restore her to her glory days." Enhancements to the Aerial Legend To restore her competitive status in the game's meta, Holstead notes the team evaluated all her skills and introduced significant changes. Her jetpack have been upgraded, boosting velocity during flight, and the jets themselves regenerates three times faster, allowing the player to remain longer aloft. Now she won't take damage from her ultimate ability, which was enhanced to tag enemies who are hit from it. Her Skyward Dive ability — which lifts teammates skyward for redeployment or escape — now takes reduced delay to activate. She's also getting recently added perk choices that players can choose to reduce fuel consumption, widen the area of her Missile Swarm, or accelerate her Skyward Dive takeoff time. "Her jet pack now delivers on the pilot experience," Holstead says. Map Changes Even the game's lone airborne map, this location, is getting a movement-friendly facelift, with an extensive redesign that opens up choke points and renders claiming the high ground more manageable. Respawn state Apex Legends Season 27 focuses on giving players the tools they need to compete in matches. "Essentially, we examined the game's core identity as a fast-paced FPS," explains principal designer Josh Mohan. Apex Legends Season 27: Amped launches Nov. 4 at the specified times.
